π Detailed Description
π We meet at the designated location where you and your bike (e-bike rental available) board the transport, heading to Apahida, Cluj, the starting point of our cycling adventure in the "Blue Butterfly Land."
π¦ This microregion north of Cluj-Napoca features unique meadows that are home to the rare Maculinea butterfly, a European sanctuary. Here, traditional land practices preserve the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
ποΈ We explore quiet, paved roads, enjoying the scenery and tranquility. Our first stop is TΔuΘeni, home to a unique monumental ensemble by artist Al. Chira. Next, we visit the "StufΔriΘurile de la Sic," Romania's second-largest reed bed after the Danube Delta, followed by the Sic Ethnographic Museum, restored by a Dutch enthusiast.
ποΈ In Gherla, we visit the Political Prisoners Memorial, which tells the story of communist-era dissidents. After cycling, we'll enjoy a traditional lunch featuring Armenian, Romanian, and Hungarian dishes made with local ingredients.
π° We explore the old city of Armenopolis, Romania's first planned city, built in the 18th century in the Baroque style. The well-preserved historical center includes 40 original buildings, such as the Armenian-Catholic Cathedral, Solomon Church, and Franciscan Monastery.
By the end of the day, you'll have discovered Transylvania's hidden treasure by bike! π
