📝 Detailed Description

🚐 We meet at the designated location, where you board the bus with your bicycle (electric bike rental available) and head towards Băiuț, Maramureș – the starting point of our cycling adventure.

🌄 We will pass through the Lăpuș Mountains via Cavnic Pass, cycling through beech and fir forests, then descend towards Budești. Here we visit the UNESCO wooden church and witness a short demonstration by a local craftsperson.

🍴 We will enjoy a traditional lunch (extra cost) and then head to Sârbi. We’ll explore the village and discover the last functional archaic industrial installations in Valea Cosăului: a watermill, scutching, carding, and steam-powered devices.

🚴‍♂️ Pedaling through stunning landscapes and ancient rural architecture in the Cosău and Iza Valleys, we will reach Poienile Izei in the evening, check into a traditional guesthouse, and enjoy a traditional dinner with a glass of plum brandy. 🥃

🌅 The next morning, after breakfast, we will visit the village’s wooden church (UNESCO monument) and continue the cycling adventure, once again crossing the Lăpuș Mountains through Botiza Pass.

🏘️ Be amazed by the high wooden gates, carved with traditional motifs – some pre-Christian – that show the enduring presence of people in Maramureș for centuries.

🌊 We will stop at the isolated Poiana Botizii village, home to a remarkable mineral spring (pulsating Borcut). Here we will have roasted bacon on a stick and take a short hike through one of the world’s most impressive beech forests – the „Strâmbu-Băiuț” Secret Forest, where trees are over 500 years old, reaching heights of over 50 meters.

🤔 But a few questions will remain in your mind:

  • Which was the most picturesque area we cycled through? The beech forest in Cavnic Pass or the Maramureș Depression with yurts scattered across the hills?
  • Which was the most beautiful village: Slătioara, Poienile Izei... or perhaps the isolated village of Poiana Botizii?
  • Which was the most delicious dish: polenta with cheese, roasted bacon on a stick... or maybe the plum or pear brandy?
